This is the best vacuum I have ever owned. I bought so many vacuums before and returned every single one of them! They didn't live up to my expectations of what clean should be! I bought this vacuum because it had the mini turbine attachment which is absolutely wonderful for picking up pet hair on the sofas! I have a miniature pinscher and a doberman... both shed profusely... short dark hair on the sofa is hard to see, but the Dyson picked it all up!! I was disgusted to see the amount of hair lying on my sofa...
Long story short. Things I love:
Every attachment is thoughtfully designed to do it's job. I love the crevice tool which has a double duty purpose... vacuum near the side boards, and flip up attachment on crevice tool to dust! The mattress tool is wonderful for picking up embedded min pin hair on my bed!
I love the design. The ball rolls around gracefully around chairs, sofas, tables. It cuts my cleaning time and back pain in half!
The warranty! 5 years!!!!!!!!! How can you lose?
I love the performance. I look at my carpets and smile! They are back to a white that I forgot that I had! You can feel how clean it is on your feet, and you can look and see that Dyson has done the job right!
Here are the things I want improvement on:
The hose... a little awkward to use, but once you get use to it, it works.
Also the price. I don't regret spending the money on it, but I'd like to see the price drop!

I purchased this vacuum after my second Shark canister died. I have all wood and tile floors, a constantly shedding dog and a few cats, two dirty boys, and would have to sweep a lot. The great thing about this vacuum is after I sweep, it picks up an embarrassing amount of hair, dust, and dirt. However, the really frustrating thing about this vacuum is that I have to sweep first. I figured for the price, it would eliminate that step. This vacuum is so low that it can't even pick up a skittle, not to mention the playground gravel my son brings home from school in his shoes. Also, I guess I was spoiled with a canister, because I like to not have to stop, put the vacuum in upright lock, tug and pull to get the strange wand out, attatch the flat head, just to vacuum under the sofa. Kind of a hassle. Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

The Dyson DC25 Animal performs as advertised. It is a challenge to use the hand tools however. The hose is so rigid and the wand so long, it is a bit clumsey. The directions for how to even use the wand couldn't be found, so we hacked our way into finding the correct buttons and tugging and pulling actions. I love the way the canister gets emptied. This vacuum picks up cat hair and specks off our tile and carpet equally well. I've only used the $50 animal attachment once. It works, but haven't found it necessary.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

The Animal Ball is much better than the Animal regular vacuum. It is easier to maneuver, easier to clean, lighter, and seems to pickup dirt and hair as good as or better than the regular. It also gets under furniture better. There are only 2 drawbacks that I have noticed - One: The electric cord is about 25 to 30 percent shorter than before so you have to change plugs more frequently. Two: The ball is a little more noisy than the regular .... No deal breaker but definitely louder.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

My husband and I have been looking and looking at the Dyson Animal vacuum's since they came out. We just could not get past the sticker shock! Being animals lovers, we have pet hair in our house. It was just getting to the point that we could not keep up with our older vacuum. Again, I used a 20% off coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond and made this purchase finally a reality. All we could do was say WOW when we got it home and used it on our own carpet. The whole family was addicted to it for weeks. We just could not believe how well this machine works. Love that it's light, easy to move and small enough to store away easily. It is worth every PENNY we paid and more.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

I was a little concerned about an expensive vacuum being that it was only my second vacuum to purchase but, so far it has been well worth the expense. Not only does my carpet look cleaner it feels cleaner as well. The mini turbine head was worth the extra expense. I have pets and vacuum everyday and am very pleased with the quality of this vacuum. The only thing I would change, is the wand is too long to maneuver to clean the inside of the car. Overall I'm vary satisfied.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

I have only had it a month or so, but it is incredible. I thought my last vacuum was picking up everything, and was I mistaken. Save your money. I purchased this vacuum a month ago from Khols. Even though I didn't purchase it from Amazon, I bought it based on the recommendations from this site, so I felt it necessary to report back. So I bought it, assembled it, and used it 4 whole times and it BROKE! I don't know what happended. I called dyson and the rep had me take a couple things apart to look for anythig clogging the machine and there was nothing to be found. From what I can determine, something in the "ball" broke. When I turned it on, it made this sick sounding noise and then when I went to push it, it just locked up. I have an average sized home and I like to think I am very "gentle" with my tools, especially when they cost nearly $600.00. Anyways, the rep informed me that I can take it to a company in my area to have it seviced. I informed her that I wouldn't be doing that and that I was going to return it where I purchased it. Something this expensive shouldn't break after 4 uses! I didn't give up on Dyson, yet. I bought the DC 14 (no ball). It's not as easy to use ( a little heavier and a little harder to push), but so far it's working well and from what I can tell, cleanig just as effectively.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

Well - I guess I am in the minority here. But - we have a two story house (stairs) with pets (hair) and carpet and hardwood. While I do not deny the suction ability - it is the most awkward when trying to use the hand tools or suction hose by itself. Forget about trying to manipulate it on the stairs, too. Found myself using our wet dry vac for hard to reach areas rather than wrestle with the cumbersome vaccum cleaner. Save yourself a lot of $$$ and buy a regular old canister vac. We have one now and it is so much easier to use.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

I wish I had purchased a Dyson Vac a long time ago. This was my first. I have 1 cat and 1 dog. The Animal Vac is great. It actually gets hair from places that my old Hoover would not even pick up. The ball technology takes a little getting used to but once you get used to it, it is easy to use. This vacuum is easy for me to carrier up & down stairs which I was having a problem with. For the last few years we always thought we should by the Dyson but we never did. We bought cheaper vacuum cleaners and both of them broke after a while. Both were very hard to maneuver and I am so frustrated that we did not buy the Dyson earlier. The Dyson DC25 is awesome, it is so extremely easy to push, it is light, picks up stuff a lot better and is much easier to clean. I love the little brush that comes with it that is powered by the air it sucks in. It is so easy now to get cat hair of our microfiber couch, it is unbelievable. Before I had to go over the couch 10 times and the hair would still not come of, I had to pick individual hair off with my fingers many times. Now with this little handy brush everything is coming off very easily. I love the Dyson DC25 and can recommend it to everybody.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

Whoever designed this thing probably never vacuums. Yes it will pick up dog hair and fine objects but try anything larger and you might as well bend over and pick it up yourself. Small leaves that drop from my house plants always pose a huge problem for this machine. Not to mention the totally stupid way you have to use the attachments with a really poorly designed scheme. BTW you might as well leave the attachments were they drop since you will be putting them back every few minutes otherwise. They are not at all secured on this unit.
Overall I felt like a sucker buying this for almost six hundred bucks. The power cable is one of the cheapest I have seen on a cleaner let alone one that sells for this kind of money. Bottom line this is a $250 vacuum.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

I borrowed my friend's DC25 and LOVED it. I don't get excited about ANY kind of housework but this thing cut my vacuum time almost in half. The reasons being are 1) I didn't have to move all the dining chairs around to get under them and the tables and 2) that roller ball cut down on the "back and forth" motion required to get around a tight corner of a coffee table, couch, or ottoman. HUGE DIFFERENCE! I've got a dinosaur Hoover upright that works really well but it takes almost 2 hrs. to vacuum a 1900 sf single story house and it's so loud I feel closer and closer to a hearing aid each day I use it. By spending the difference between a loud Hoover and a quiet and fast Dyson, I figure I'm saving money by not needing the hearing aid so soon. I bought this to replace an aging Kirby vacuum. When I vacuumed a room that I had just finished with the kirby I had to empty the canister twice. It has the best suction I have ever seen in a vacuum.
If I have one criticism it is the hose for the hand tools. It is way too stiff and you have to hold the vac with one hand while you use the hand tools or you will pull the vacuum over.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

I don't love vacuuming but with this machine - I don't hate it anymore. We have a two story home and two dogs and after struggling with a cheaper vacuum, it was heaven to use this Dyson. I've had a Dyson in the past and wasn't impressed, so it took a lot for me to go back to the brand but I am glad that I did. I find that the ball technology makes maneuvering the machine easy and although others complain about the reduced size of the collection chamber, it is not so small that I would chose a model without the ball.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

This is absolutely the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. I have two cats and a dog who all shed quite a bit. Previous vacuums picked up the dirt, but only partially removed the animal hairs. My Dyson does a wonderful job and makes my carpets look like new. I've had this vacuum cleaner for several years now and I have never had one problem with it. Dyson came out with a newer model, but this one works like a charm, so I won't buy a new one yet. But when time comes for buying a new vacuum cleaner, it will definitely be another Dyson Animal.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

After upgrading from our 3 yr. old Dyson to this model, we are very pleased. The only downfall would be the smaller canister/dust container. The exercise to the trash is much welcomed due the appreciation we have for this machine. We have 3 large long hair dogs and it cleans our carpets wonderfully. As allergy sufferers, after vacuuming, the sneezes and runny noses seize. The ball makes it very easy to manuever around furniture and for a "vacuumee" who is disabled, this vacuum is the easiest and best worker and very well worth the extra money. We tried it out at Best Buy first for a "test drive". This is definitely a good idea if you aren't sure about spending over $300.00 on a vacuum. Even the sales personnel there said they've had little to no returns on the Dysons as compared to the other brands that attempt to mimic their brand. I love this vacuum. I've always been skeptical of the vacuums that um...cost more than $50...that's all I've ever had and I thought they worked fine. Well I was wrong. I bought the DC 25 animal with money we received for our wedding and holy crap. I'm in love. We have a cat that somehow generates a sort of cat hair tumbleweed that up to this point would just run away from brooms and vacuums. But this vacuum really sucks!!! Somehow it doesn't let the tumbleweeds escape. Oh, and the fuzz was the worst on hard floors, which I've never been able to effectively vacuum with the cheap-o vacuums that I've had before, and the promise is true, this thing works on all types of floors!
Bottom Line.
--Things I love:
+Suction power -- WOW!
+Maneuverability of ball
+Attachments for the handle (I can just leave the vacuum on and get the cobwebs from the ceiling while I'm there -- no more "Webster")
+Super quiet (no motor sound, just like a sucking sound -- I don't know how to explain it)
+On the trash canister, the release button to open the bottom is right at the top, nowhere near where the actual dirt comes out.
+Spinning carpet brush comes out super easily to clean separate of the vacuum so you don't have to get down on your hands and knees and disgustingly yank out hairs or strings that've gotten stuck.
+Stores really easily in our small coat closet by the front door.
--Things I don't love:
+Price! Yes, its a lot of money, but if you have the money or just come across it luckily (like we did), its worth it.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

I purchased this vacuum about two weeks ago and a few days ago I was finally able to put it together with the free time I had. I was curious how well it stood up against my old trusty hoover (it was definitely coming of age and needed replacing). I have a one-bedroom apartment and after the hoover was finished I turned to the Dyson and it was amazing how much more this vacuum picked up. Now I had to empty the container about 3 times and not because of the size of the container but the amount of pet hair it picked up compared to the old vacuum.
As for price of this vacuum, you definitely should carefully weight it in to your decision making. I justified it because of my two cats, but if you just want the power then definitely take your time and do some more research.
In the end this was definitely the vacuum for me.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

The price always held me back from purchasing a Dyson. But owning multiple pets meant replacing my cheap vacuums annually, and with matching cheap warranties, I never felt like I was getting a "bargain".
So I pried the money out of savings and bought the Animal. I love this vacuum!
Pros:
· My wood floors have never been cleaner
· Our family dust allergies have been greatly reduced
· Regular use is reducing the amount of furniture dusting I have to do
· The "Animal" attachment is well-designed and effective (unlike the cheaper versions I've tried)
· The beater actually TURNS OFF when you're doing hard floors
· Five year warranty
Cons:
· The price may be prohibitive for some
· The cord is a little short (but I can do most of 1800 sq ft with 1 move)
· The ball is challenging when one is used to a standard vacuum
· The ball is rather tall - and prevents getting underneath lower furniture without using the wand
Recommendation: If your home has shedding pets, this IS the vacuum for you!Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

Outstanding vacuum, very well designed and thought-out. Points previously discussed:
1) Yes, it's plastic. Probably why it weighs only 16 lbs, and seems to be pretty tough stuff; I vote light weight rather than cast-iron. Our Hoover weighed in at 24 lbs and was literally two dozen pounds of junk; probably would have made a good boat anchor (and do a better job than it ever did as a vacuum). We'll see how durable it is, but so far, pretty impressed.
2) The cord is 24 feet long; that's about all I'm willing to try and wrap around my arm while vacuuming, and is plenty long for any room in our house.
3) Tremendous vacuum power; emptying canister is not an issue - yes, it fills up with stuff, like all other bagless HEPA canisters I've ever seen or tried. If you don't want to look at dust, empty dust, or see dust fall out into your wastebasket, get a bag vacuum. Emptying, by the way, involves pressing two buttons - one to get the canister off the vacuum, and one to dump from the bottom of the canister directly into the trash. Sweet.
4) More agile than any vacuum we've ever tried - the smaller head really gets into places other vacuums couldn't reach, and the ball is a breeze to maneuver. Yes, the ball is too large to get under some furniture, but the vacuum head reaches as far as our ex-Hoover, and the detachable hose is really slick to use if you need to get all the way under, say, a bed.
A bargain even at the high(er) price. You only pay once for quality.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

...but stranger things have happened!
I had wanted a Dyson for some time, so after much procrastination, I finally got one.
As pretty much all previous positive reviewers have said, this vacuum really does work great. The suction is fantastic. The tools are easy to use, though the hose does take some getting used to, but that's pretty minor. It's a good size and weight, not too heavy. I find it's not exactly quiet, but not roaring like a jet engine either. After vacuuming my entire house with the Dyson, I can walk around in bare feet and I feel absolutely no dirt or debris whatsoever on the floor. It's SUPER clean! It's amazing.
Others have said emptying it gives off a puff of dust a bit, and that's true, but it's a trade-off from not having to buy bags! The Dyson seems to compact the dust and sand-like dirt down to the bottom of the canister though, so when you hit the trap door, it falls out first. The cord is another thing people have touched on. Yes, it's shorter than some vacuums, but that's another trade-off to having a lighter machine. Slightly smaller bin size was another one, but that's also not a very big deal to me.
I've read all of the reviews on this model on every conceivable website. The negative reviews I found seemed to be mainly from people who 1)unfortunately got the 1 lemon out of a bajillion Dysons, which seems rare. 2)will never be satisfied no matter what. 3)have some sort of bizarre reverse snobbery aversion to Dyson's products. Or 4)have concerns that to me are just personal pet peeves like the cord length, bin size, etc.
The overwhelming majority of people who bought the Dyson Ball either love it or like it a whole lot, so take those negative reviews with a grain of salt. I personally love using this vacuum and will no longer slack on the vacuuming! Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

We bought this vacuum this weekend to replace a long-owned and much-abused model by a different brand. Not only is this vacuum impressively more powerful than any previous one I've used, but it's also much simpler to drive around furniture. It makes vacuuming fun.
The attachments are great for stairs, getting pet hair off of couches, hard to reach places, everything. I think my favorite thing about this vacuum is how effortless it makes cleaning - if you need the wand, you just pull and you're ready to go. It's so light that it makes multi-floor vacuuming simple and painless.

It is better than any other vacuum cleaner I've tried. However, it still has some flaws, that I would like to mention.
It really vacuums much better than the previous cleaners I've had, it's light, easy to operate, easy to clean, no neccessary filters to buy, just wash filters every three months.
Overall, very good vacuum. And that ball is awesome. Very maneuverable.
Cons:
1. The outlet plug unplugs very easy, it doesn't stay plugged while vacuuming. Minor annoyance.
2. The Quick-draw Telescope Reach wand is very unpractical to work with. Maybe it was meant for high to reach places, but not for stairs. It's not flexible.
I purchased it at BedBathAndBeyond with a 20% Off coupon and very glad I did.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

I've used the DC25 Animal for a couple of weeks now. Before purchasing, I read the reviews here, the negative ones especially carefully.
Regarding the broken belt reports, those just have to be false. There are no belts in this design; the beater bar is direct-drive and conveniently switchable.
The integrated handle and extension wand do seem odd at first, but they really become very easy to use after doing it a time or two. The hose is stiff, but it works and has a good reach.
While the collection bin does seem on the small side, we have found that the hair and debris becomes very compressed at the bottom of the bin, so we really don't need to dump the bin any more often than with previous vacuums.
And giving the collection bin a couple of shakes before opening the bottom cover usually dislodges the compressed pet hair in our experience. A time or two I've had to release a hair clump by hand, which is no big deal.
One reviewer said the attachments fall off of the unit while vacuuming. On my DC25, they attach to their storage and usage positions with a positive "snap," and stay snug and secure at all times. If attachments fall off, make sure they are inserted properly so that they snap into place.
I agree that the power cord is too short; it takes three outlets to do each level of our two-story house.
We have found the hand-held head (with suction-powered beater bars) extremely effective. It is not at all difficult to angle the head properly for maximum suction; I do the carpeted stairs much more rapidly -- and effectively -- with this attachment. Just remember where you put it; there is no onboard storage for this particular tool.
Those who have trouble cleaning certain surfaces with the hand-held beater bar attachment should try a variety of techniques. For example, I cleaned a fabric suitcase covered with pet hair by using a side-to-side motion, instead of front-to-back. Our mattress and cloth car seats responded best to a circular motion. Using this attachment requires a little experimentation, which is quick and easy. Just try different patterns until the crud starts coming off.
I particularly like the maneuverability of the ball design. It takes a minute or two to get used to, but it becomes very easy to maneuver, and reduces cleaning time.
The DC25 Animal picks up a lot more dirt, and somewhat more pet hair, than our previous vacuums. One of these was an Amway Cleartrack, the design of which was, IIRC, "borrowed" by the corporation from an earlier Dyson design, until Dyson prevailed in a lawsuit. We also used a couple of Hoover models.
The DC25's plastic design seems sturdy enough, but only time will tell how durable the unit will be.
It requires a little force to return the unit to its upright position, but you can lessen the force required by "helping" the wheels drop via some gentle pressure with your foot. Even without doing this, though, my wife and I have no difficulty returning the DC25 Animal to the upright position.
The unit is very light and is a beautiful piece of engineering. All seals tighten up snugly during operation, and the suction is very strong. The switchable electric beater bar is excllent, and this unit handles transitions from hard surfaces to carpeted surfaces better than any vaccuum I have used over the past 30 years.
The unit is well balanced for carrying when using the collection bin handle as recommended.
Other bagless vacs we have used have allowed a lot of dust and pet hair to make it through to the pre-motor filter(s). Not so with this unit. After many hours of use, only a small amount of very fine dust has collected on the washable cloth pre-motor filter. Dyson recommends rinsing this and the exhaust filter every few months.
This unit also draws a couple less amps during operation than our previous vac, as measured with a Kill-a-Watt.
All in all, I would say that the DC25 Animal is worth the price. It is a beautiful machine from both an engineering and aesthetic standpoint, but -- more importantly -- it does an exceptional job of cleaning multiple surfaces.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

DC25 Animal, only thing to improve is to make it lay flat and go under furniture. Other than that this thing sucked up over 3/4 lbs of dirt and animal hair off of just one of my rugs after I had vacuumed it with my regular vacuum cleaner for a test. I would definately recommend this to anyone who can afford it. I was to cheap to buy one and my dear loving husband bought it while I was on vacation and surprised me on my return. My immediate thought was to return it and get the money back but after the one use I will never part with it. 5 stars all the way. Some people complain about the cord being to short and the bin being to small, it is worth it if I have empty every 10 minutes, this thing is awesome.

My wife and I have been married for 10 years. In that time, we've been owners of four of Comsumer Reports' "best buy" vacuums. None of them work today. Upon the last one bellowing smoke, I decided that I'd check out the ratings again. The Dyson was NOT highly rated, and very expensive. I decided to go with the Kenmore "Progressive" bagless. When I got to Sears to buy my $300 vacuum, it looked and felt so cheap, that I couldn't make myself do it.
I walked over to the shelf where the Dyson's were. Talk about well made! That was enough to get me to try it. $467 later (Sears was running a 15% off sale), I'm the proud owner of a DC-25 Animal.
This thing is amazing. Although I'm not the primary "vacuumer" of the house, I had to try this thing out. Our bedroom is 15' X 18'. After vacuuming this room, I had half of a bathroom trash can full of dog hair and dirt that we could never see! This is after borrowing my neighbor's new Hoover that she swears by.
The only thing that I would change: Larger capacity. I had to empty this thing several times just to do one room. I don't think we'll have that problem in the future, now that the carpet has been "Dyson'd".
Summary: This thing is worth the $$. After years of my wife complaining about different vacuum cleaners, she absolutely loves this one. This machine is very easy to assemble out of the box. The assembly instructions have no pictures, and is only three sentences long. If you're looking for a good vacuum cleaner with a 5 year warranty, spend the $$, you won't have to buy 2 or 3 more in the next decade.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

Not good for a house with birds e.g., parakeets and parrots. The downy like feathers tend to clog the system. Also, the individual suction devices need to be cleaned over time as they tend to clog with debris. This can be tricky. Don't really see any discernable differences between high end and low end priced models other than certain features. The basic unit is the same.Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

After much research, I just bought this vacuum, and it's fantastic. Can't believe how much dog hair and dirt was hiding in my carpet. Relatively small bin filled up fast because of all the dog hair, but very easy to empty, so not a problem. In fact it was satisfying to see how much the vac was collecting and also to know I won't have to be buying new bags all the time.
Easy to assemble; hardest part was getting it out of the box because I didn't see the "how to open" directions -- but they're there! Don't overlook the mini turbine attachment in the box. Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

Wow! I bought this at Lowe's this afternoon and almost wanted to take a half day because I was so excited to go home and vacuum the house! And was I right (I didn't actually take that half day) but wow! Got it right out of the box 1,2,3 snap together and your ready to go. I used to have an Oreck which after reading the reviews about this vacuum I think my Oreck was doing a pretty good job. We have a black lab and Yorkshire Terrier and needless to say I think I could have made a small yorkie with all the lab's hair the vacuum picked up.
I did find that it doesn't pick up big items I found a multivitamin on the floor and it didn't suck that up but that's fine my old one wouldn't have either.
I was certainly surprised to find that it came with 3 attachments as well which I was worried about because I don't like the hair that sticks to the floorboards and in the cracks. The mini head also worked great!
After reading the product reviews about the DC25 and how small the chamber is for this model I found it was just right. I just emptied it and I don't think I actually needed to but that could be because I vacuum my house about every 4 days normally. But overall this vacuum is A+++ well worth the money spent.
Our dogs are actually walking around the house smelling the carpet which they normally don't do so it must be very very clean.
Off to vacuum more rooms! Hope this helps!Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum CleanerDyson Mini Turbine ToolGet more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

I've owned a lot of vacuums. In the recent past, a number of Hoover Wind Tunnels, in part due to the rave reviews on Consumer Reports and I liked their embedded dust finder. Consumers was never very hot on Dyson, but recently I found that Consumer Reports has some serious problems with Vacuum reviews and they are flat out wrong about Dyson. Anyway, after 4 years, my last Hoover bite the dust, I was tired of spending $100 every few years getting it repaired and decided that I would not follow their advise but rather come here to Amazon and see what real users say about various products. First of all, the Dyson reviews as anyone can see are stellar. Next, reading about Hoover Wind Tunnels as well, it seems my experience with them matched others; great the first year, then down hill from there on with lots of repairs. Still, $550 for a Vac, that's crazy. Or is it? Well with a 5 warranty, great reviews and some long saved Amazon points from my credit card use, I decided to go with the DC25 Animal. I only wish I had purchased sooner. As others have said, the out of box experience was excellent. Easy to setup. No masses of non recyclable Styrofoam. A nice looking manual with an actual registration card where one can find the serial number. Great web site. So far, so good.
First 20 minutes of trying it out, I was in love. Didn't find the ball difficult to get the hang of, just the opposite. Love the ability to turn the beater brush on and off from the handle, unlike the Hoover that was down by the floor and difficult to engage due to the cheap plastic. The DC25 is very light, not noisy. But the amazing part was seeing the basket fill with dog hair and gunk quickly, even though I had used the hoover only a few days before. This Vac sucks like there's no tomorrow! I was shocked by the amount of dirt it picked up. The carpets looked excellent and of course, the DC25 has no problems keeping my tile clean. I like how the unit lifts its back wheels when you engage the unit to vac. So the downside? Well as some have said here, the cord isn't all that long. But heck, even at twice its size, it wouldn't be long enough if the goal is to vac an entire home of a decent size without moving to another outlet. And here are two words to take care of the cord issue: Extension Cord. Sure, it works with a 50 foot extension which can be rolled up with a nice clip and hung over the handle. That problem was solved. I also appreciate that unlike the Hoover, the cord wasn't black but a light gray. My walls are all white and I can't tell you how often the damn Hoover cord would scuff them up with a black marking as you pull it by the walls. I can't say for sure this will not happen with the Dyson but I doubt it (the orange extension cord mentioned above that I used with the Hoover never scuffed the walls).
Now onto the small dirt basket. Yes its smaller than other Dysons. But if you find it fills quickly (like I did on the first use), well guess what? You have a dirty home . Just kidding. I did have to empty it half way through the first vacuuming but I suspect as all that old, accumulated dirt my Hoover didn't get is taken care of, this will be less an issue. And emptying is super quick and easy. Its also nice not having to deal with bags. Consumers wasn't all that hot on bagless vac's but after decades of using them, I think I'll be far happier dumping this gung out every time and seeing what I'm picking up as I vacuum. Will save me a ton of money too. Those good Hoover bags are expensive and add up.
So my only minor complaint is that while I spent the extra $$ for the Animal attachment (as others have said, that's the only difference other than color between these two Ball units), it doesn't appear to attache to the body of the DC25 like the other tools. That said, it works quite well. We have three dogs, one a Husky that sheds a ton. She likes to get up on leather couch so we keep a pad there. This attachment sucked up the hair beautifully meaning that it will get popped into the washing machine a bit less, saving more money and water. See, you really can justify a $550 Vac if you wan to.
Seriously, this really is a lot of money for a vacuum. Unless Dyson has some magical drug embedded into the handle, its pretty clear they can get away with this price because the damn thing is a superb product. The number of reviews here convinced me with only a reservation on the cost but I can honestly say, it was worth every penny, at least so far. If it is reliable unlike my Hoover, I'll be a very happy and life long Dyson customer. Get more detail about Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner.
